Title i Parent Orientation information
Welcome to Dodge City Middle School, we are looking forward to a wonderful and exciting school year. Today I would like to visit with you about our Title I program at Dodge City Middle School. Title I is a federally funded program that aims to support learners in meeting the State's academic standards. The goal of the Title I program is to help students meet Kansas academic standards. Title I services are available in both Reading and Math.

This year as a part of our Title I services we will be implementing a new parent involvement program entitled “Stepping Up.” The “Stepping Up” program is designed to recognize parents who are supporting student learning in the home.
As a part of the “Stepping Up” program we will be asking parents to pledge a number of after school hours. These after school hours will be a parent’s commitment in supporting both academics and school sponsored activities. We are asking that all parents sign the “Agreement for Success” form when leaving this presentation. |
Dodge City Middle School will open the school library in the evenings prior to the holidays to encourage families to check out books and reading materials. We will also be offering an Audio Books Program. We will be purchasing audio books for students to check out.
We will be holding two parent involvement banquets. These banquets are designed to award and promote parental involvement. Our goal in parent involvement is to promote strategies to support literacy in the home.
Please mark your calendar for the following dates: Tuesday, November 29th and Tuesday, April 24 . Dodge City Middle School will also be hosting a “Bring Your Parent to School Day” on Friday, September 9. More information about parent involvement programs will be sent home during the first month of school.
Title I services are provided by licensed staff. Students may be seen in small groups and selected to attend special courses during the day or after school.
The day programs include; Intervention classes of Read 180 grades 7 and 8 Reading Intervention class in grade 6 and Foundational Math class in grades 6 through 8. These classes are scheduled for 62 minutes each day. The Title I classes provide students with an individual intervention program created for their specific needs. Students are identified by their performance on state achievement test in math and reading. Students will also be considered for these classes based on level of proficiency, parent request and teacher referral. Parents are notified by the school when their child qualifies for Title I support. All parents are informed of their child’s progress through school conferences, report cards and communication through email.
If you have questions regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s teacher(s) or paraprofessional, please contact the Dodge City Public Schools’ Human Resources Office, at (620) 371–1004.
