What is a Student-Led Conference?
A student-led conference is one in which the student leads parents/guests through a discussion of his/her work that is organized in a digital portfolio. In student-led conferences, students have created a portfolio representing work over the past ten weeks. A portfolio is a purposeful collection of student work that tells the story of his/her growth as a learner. Students will conduct the conferences detailing skills and processes learned, as well as the goals they’ve set to further improve themselves. Part of the digital portfolio will also include a student’s reading goal, Lexile score and mid-term report.
What is A Drop-In Conference?
DCMS welcomes and encourages parents to see all of your student’s teachers during these scheduled conference times. We have provided drop-in times ten minutes before and ten minutes after your student’s conference. If you drop in and a teacher appears to be busy with another student, please wait and/or come back in a few minutes. DCMS wants all parents to be able to see all of their child’s teachers if they would like to do so.
How Conference Times are Scheduled?
On March 5, 2018, a notification of conference times will be sent home with students including 20 minute blocks of time from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21 and from 12:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22. The student-led conferences have been scheduled through your student’s advisory teacher. There will be a ten minute drop in time before and after your scheduled conference if you need to visit with another teacher.
Conference Visitation Form and Non-Uniform Day
To encourage students and parents to attend a scheduled parent/teacher conference, we are offering a non-uniform day for attendance. To receive the non-uniform day, each student should pick up a conference attendance form in the front lobby at the time of their arrival. The form needs to be completed by attending the student led-conference and at least two drop-in conferences with other teachers. At the end of the conference, students will turn in the conference attendance form in the library and pick up their non-uniform day bracelet. The non-uniform day will be on Monday, March 26.
Our Goal for Parent Teacher Conferences
It is a vital and important experience that all students are able to share with parents what they’ve learned. For this reason, we ask that 100 percent of our parents participate in these conferences. We are looking forward to this experience. Thank you for supporting your child’s education in such a meaningful way. If you have any questions, please call and speak with your child’s advisory teacher. School will not be in session on Friday, March 23, 2018.
