Parent Teacher Conferences - October 22 & 23
Dodge City Middle School will be holding its first parent teacher conferences of the school year on Wednesday, October 22 and on Thursday, 23. These conferences are designed to meet student and parent needs by providing time for both student led and individual parent teacher conferences.
What is A Drop In Conference?
DCMS welcomes and encourages parents to see all of your student’s teachers during scheduled conference. We have provided drop in times 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after your student’s scheduled conference. If you drop in and a teacher appears to be busy with another student please wait and/or come back in a few minutes. DCMS wants all parents to be able to see all of their child’s teachers if they would like to do so.
What is a Student Led Conference?
A student-led conference is one in which the student leads parents/guests through a discussion of his/her work that is organized in a portfolio. In student-led conferences, students have created a portfolio representing work over the past ten weeks. A portfolio is a purposeful collection of student work that tells the story of his/her growth as a learner. Students will conduct the conferences detailing skills and processes learned, as well as the goals they’ve set to further improve themselves. Part of the portfolio will also include a student’s, Student Reading Inventory (SRI), Student Math Inventory (SMI) and report card.
How Conference Times are Scheduled
A notification post card of conference times will be mailed home. The post card will include a twenty minute blocks of time from 3:45 to 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22 and from 12:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23. The student led-conferences have been scheduled through your student’s advisory teacher. There will be a ten minute drop in time before and after your scheduled conference if you need to visit with another teacher.
Conference Visitation Form and Non-uniform Day
To encourage students and parents to attend a scheduled parent teacher conference we are offering a non uniform day for attendance. To receive the non-uniform day each student should pick up a conference visitation form in the front lobby at the time of their arrival. The form will need to be completed by attending the student led conference and at least two drop in conferences with other teachers. Once the form is completed you will need to drop it off in the school office and receive your non-uniform day bracelet.
Our Goal for Parent teacher Conferences
It is a vital and important experience that all students are able to share with parents what they’ve learned. For this reason, we ask that 100 percent of our parents participate in these conferences. We are looking forward to this experience. Thank you for supporting your child’s education in such a meaningful way. If you have any question, please call and speak with your child’s advisory teacher. School will not be in session on Friday, October 24, 2014.
