Standards of Excellence in Math 2016 & 2017

The Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force named recipients of the 2016 & 2017 Math Challenge Awards. Dodge City Middle School was the recipient of the eighth grade math award for the past two consecutive years. The Challenge Awards are designed to recognize Kansas schools that are making a significant difference in student achievement despite facing significant challenges in school population. The certificates recognize performance on state assessments in reading and/or mathematics that exceeds normal expectations based on the socio-economic status and sample size of those taking the test. Data gathered through the Quality Performance Accreditation process has shown the greatest achievement gap occurs in schools with a high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches.  The schools receiving the Challenge Award have managed to post state assessment scores above what normally would be expected among those serving disadvantaged populations.

Each of the 15 schools will present their individual stories on how they reached a level of educational excellence The Regional Breaking Ranks School Showcase will take place at the Met High School on December 1, 2012 in San Diego, CA.

The Regional Showcase has come as the result of more than 2,500 educators widening the National School Showcase conducted each year, for the past four years, as part of the NASSP Conference. NASSP and CSSR hope to conduct many more regional showcases throughout the country over the next few years.

The showcase is designed to help educators learn practical student centered strategies from teams of teachers, administrators and students. Showcase schools have changed the culture and improved student performance as a result of implementing strategies aligned with the Breaking Ranks Framework. Participants will walk away with personalized learning and teaching concepts, tools, and techniques that can be adapted to meet the unique needs of any middle school and high school.
